I'd put my money on Gengar being a raid boss along with some gen 4 ghosts!

Version 5.5.7

October 20, 2018

  • All raid results generated

Version 5.5.4

October 16, 2018

Gen 4 release

  • New pokemon!
  • Stat rebalance reverted
  • Regenerating all results. Site may be slow for a bit

It seems they have some work to do to handle the stat rebalance so I reverted. This way the raid counters will be correct

Version 5.5.3

October 15, 2018

Move rebalance and improvements to Raid Results

  • New stats!
  • Added Graphs to raid results
  • Added early custom graph support for Patreons
  • Fixed issue preventing automatic assistants from working on Tier 6 raids
  • Added new images for alola pokemon
  • Regenerating all results

Plan was to release these 2 separately but Niantic decided to surprise me on a Monday. Unfortunately my current architecture does not support running multiple sets of game masters so the sim results will not be completely accurate. They are really only different in number of deaths though so I don't feel too bad about breaking the sims for current actual stats. Besides I expect the new stats tomorrow.

Version 5.5.2

October 10, 2018

More public profile work

  • Fixes issue where the trainer page was displaying Mystic when it should have displayed Valor
  • Added battle parties to public profile

  • Prevents double load of profiles

These were related ;)

Version 5.5.0

October 9, 2018

Beta release of public profiles!

  • Added an initial public profile implementation!
  • Added search by name or user id

Let me know what you think!

Version 5.4.25

October 4, 2018

A few updates

  • Privacy policy updated to make it clear that your pokebox and trainer information are not considered sensitive personaly information (SPI)

Trainer name and to a lesser extent Pokemon names may be considered peronally identifiable information(PII) by someone. These features are entirely optional and are intended to be share friendly. Yes this means finding a friend by trainer name is something I hope to add soon!

Version 5.4.24

October 3, 2018

Minor tweaks mostly to handle a questionable 3rd party export format

  • Now detects said questionable format and switches "1" to mean false and "0" to mean true
  • Now uses the 'Name' field to mean either Pokemon or Nickname depending on the situation
  • Export columns are now more sensibly ordered

Note to developers out there, if you are going to allow exports of your data or make some public api, make sure its understandable by humans and matches standard programming conventions. Represent enums as strings and booleans as true/false. Make your variable names make sense, etc.

Version 5.4.23

October 2, 2018

A few bug fixes and improved bulk support

  • Deoxys now has Thunderbolt
  • Advice power up now correctly saves ivs
  • Bulk import no longer requires a shiny and lucky column
  • Bulk export added!
  • Bulk import now supports an id column and an importedId column. You can use importedId to assign your own ids to Pokemon

Some testing has been done that you can export your pokemon, edit in google sheets, and reimport to update your pokemon in place. No more delete all and reimport. This is not to say enough testing has been done. Please report bugs to [email protected]. Please include the file you are importing along with browser and device.

Version 5.4.22

Update share images and descriptions

  • Deoxys will now show up for Kyogre for example

Performance and Share Link improvements

  • Reenabled javascript split
  • Much improved share description and image for raid counters

  • Raid simulator now remembers rejoin time and battle parties better.

Version 5.4.16

September 21, 2018

Minor bug fix

  • Bulk upload should work properly again

Version 5.4.15

September 20, 2018

Full Mewtwo support.

  • Mewtwo has been implemented as a Tier 6 raid with 50% additional hp.
  • Tier 6 raids for other raid bosses available under custom raids.
  • Fixed Tier ? functionality in some cases

It is unknown wether they truly made a tier 6, customized Mewtwo or just changed tier 5 permanently. We will see.

Version 5.4.14

September 20, 2018

Initial Mewtwo release. Changes to support new 60K cp still to come

Version 5.4.13

September 18, 2018

Niantic keeps up the big news with a Deoxys leak

  • Deoxys readded to raids

Pretty strong evidence in this Silph Road reddit thread. That said, no information on how Deoxys forms will be handled. Our best guesses have been implemented and will be updated as further news comes out

Version 5.4.12

September 17, 2018

Meganium update

  • Frenzy Plant added for Meganium
  • Updated legacy date for birds

Raid counters regenerated but not the rest of the rankings and pokedex as Mewtwo is likely getting a new move on Thursday

Version 5.4.11

September 14, 2018

Hopefully final update for raids

  • Removed a few raids

Version 5.4.10

September 13, 2018

Quite a bit of confusion today as raids have changed multiple times

  • Added and removed raids yet again

The raid list still may not be 100% up to date. There were a few hours where other raids were showing up that have now disappeared. Hopefully a good list will pop up soon.

Version 5.4.9

September 13, 2018

Tweaked raid list

  • Added and removed raids

Version 5.4.8

September 13, 2018

The birds have arrived along with a raid rotation

  • Added new raids

Version 5.4.7

September 10, 2018

Spent some time fixing up the raid simulator because it was frustrating me

  • Numerous bugs with parameters not saving between pages fixed
  • Added rejoin to the raid simualtor
  • Tweaked the combat log to be a little less annoying and a bit faster.
  • Fixed share image for raid boss sim results
  • Fixed gen 4 typos
  • Tweaked gen 4 movesets (will affect pokebox only for now)
  • Added Arceus - Fairy

I think I got all the parameter bugs but please let me know if I missed any!

Version 5.4.5

September 8, 2018

Bug fix

  • Fix translations cache
  • Fix issue with language change drop down

Version 5.4.4

September 7, 2018

Big update

  • Removed Sky Attack from Moltres as a raid boss. Moltres will only have fire moves
  • Added gen 4 legendaries
  • Fixed TDO sort orders (ranking and pokedex pages will have to wait)
  • Reduced server lag for charge moves from 98 to the intended 70.
  • When the sim decides to use quick attack only, will use the quick attack 28ms lag instead of the charge move lag of 70ms

Ranking and Pokedex results have not been updated due to server load concerns. Raid results have been updated. Thanks to /u/333-blue for the bug report

Version 5.4.3

September 4, 2018

Minor patch

  • Added last resort to flareon.

Version 5.4.2

September 4, 2018

Improved battle sim share links!

  • Fixed issue with moves being incorrect in description when shared.
  • Added 168,000 share images for every combination of combatants :)

Still to come, raid share links. If you have ideas what they should look like, send them my way!

Version 5.4.1

August 31, 2018

Minor bug fixes!

  • Added all pokemon to possible raids
  • Maybe fixed share links (we'll see)

Version 5.4.0

August 29, 2018

Massive behind the scenes changes and Moltres!

  • Moltres has been added with Sky Attack
  • All results regenerated. Bug fixes and Sky Attack!
  • Every URL is now more shareable on social media and discord. They will have images, title and description
  • Better raid result page shows info while the counters are loading.
  • Pages are now generated on the server side now. This should hopefully fix my search engine woes and speed up slower devices

Improvements on sharing will come. Dynamic image generation, share buttons and more. I might even be able to make the site work without javascript.

Moltres currently has all 4 charge moves as possible defendsive movesets as I have heard conflicting reports as to what movesets Moltres will have. I suspect it will be sky attack but I don't know for sure. The counters don't change that much so leaving them all in is safe. Sorry for the long wait on the regeneration of some of the buggy results but I wanted to wait for Moltres announcement.

Version 5.3.24

August 24, 2018

Ho-Oh has returned again, and is duoable this time.

  • Smack Down Tyranitar punching bag has returned. It can be shiny and some people are exited about this.

Version 5.3.23

August 22, 2018

Sim update, this will only affect pokedex for now.

  • Rankings with variable dodging have been improved. The number of counters found has been increased. As before, the most accurate counters list is on the pokedex pages
  • TDO on defense has been changed from the TDO of the defender to the TDO of the attacker. This should make more sense for everyone (blissey #1 TDO!)

Note I am NOT regenerating all rankings at this time. I suspect there may be another Pokemon Go update in the next couple days and I am working on something else.

Version 5.3.22

August 21, 2018

New raids have been added again!

  • Updated all known raids as of 8:00am Pacific Time.

Middle of the night update is very unusual timing. It will be curious if this pattern continues

Version 5.3.21

August 16, 2018

New raids have been added!

  • Updated all known raids as of 3:00 Pacific Time.

It looks like gen 4 preparation time everyone!

Version 5.3.20

August 16, 2018

Regirock preparation!

  • Updated currently available raids to feature Regirock

We expect a full rotation of new Pokemon to come. Expect more water and fighting Tier 2, 3 and 4 raids.

Version 5.3.19

August 12, 2018

Minor patch

  • Hurricane added as possible move for Articuno

Version 5.3.18

August 12, 2018

Yet another bug in Unknown moves

  • Fixed cases where Unknown moves was the same as a particular moveset

Regenerating all raids now.

Version 5.3.17

August 10, 2018

Full support for Last Resort

  • 2900ms with an abysmal 2700ms damage window start makes this move very dodgable

Full regeneration of files starting now

Version 5.3.16

August 9, 2018

Bulk import bug fixes

  • Handle '1' and 'T' for Shiny and Lucky, not just 'true' or 'false'
  • Show shiny/lucky in bulk import preview
  • Show parse errors for invalid values of lucky and shiny. Will default to false and is not required

This was breaking bulk import for some 3rd parties

Version 5.3.15

August 8, 2018

Quick bug fix release. Thanks TygerDave for the quick bug reports!

  • Fixed some display issues with the new lucky and shiny code
  • Fixed powerup costs in some situations
  • Tweaked server settings again for stability

The rollback is due to google being unable to support the performance speed up. It is causing an enormous problem in people being able to find the pages they are looking for and more importantly, preventing new users from finding the site. A workaround is my #1 priority for the site now

Version 5.3.14

August 7, 2018

A release that is bittersweet for me

  • Added preliminary support for Last Resort. It has been added to Eevee and all Eeveelutions. Based on video analysis, the duration has been set to 3.3s and power of 90. Current support is on Pokebox and simulation pages. Full ranking support will come after the exact durations are released.
  • Add support for shiny pokemon. This is display only for pokebox and all pokebox results
  • Add support for lucky pokemon. Same as shiny but also includes support in the advice page
  • Rolled back the split site changes from July 29th.

The rollback is due to google being unable to support the performance speed up. It is causing an enormous problem in people being able to find the pages they are looking for and more importantly, preventing new users from finding the site. A workaround is my #1 priority for the site now

Version 5.3.13

August 3, 2018

Minor tweaks

  • Try and prevent page loads from getting 'stuck' in peoples browsers. See open bug ticket
  • Tweaked back end parameters slightly for better performance

Version 5.3.12

July 31, 2018

Sim tweaks to provide more accurate results

  • Fixed edge condition with dodge all weave where it would get 'stuck'
  • Made random move selection less random. Will now rotate between seeds to provide more accurate results with fewer monte carlo iterations
  • Regenerated all results

Mewtwo vs. Tyranitar had a particularly bad seed and even 500 sims wasn't enough to fix it. Derandomizing was the only way to get a good result. There are some downsides to this for percentiles but overall I believe everyone will like this better

Version 5.3.11

July 30, 2018

Minor patch

  • Fixed wide screen pokebox and bulk delete

Version 5.3.10

July 29, 2018

Performance boost time!

  • Fixed slowness of pokebox list page
  • Fixed slowness of pokebox delete page
  • Fixed slowness of pokemon dialog selects
  • Fixed slowness of pokebox dialog selects
  • Split site into smaller pieces so initial load will be much faster
  • Fixed sort by estimator in 'Single' view

More to come!

Version 5.3.9

July 20, 2018

Bug squash time

  • Fixed crash bug on mobile with combat logs
  • Moved move buffer time to damageStartMs to prevent double single bar moves

I am NOT regenerating all results right now as there are some additional bugs to investigate. These bug fixes will only apply to pokebox simulations for now

Version 5.3.8

July 19, 2018

Registeel is out along with other new raids!

  • Added all the new raids
  • Bumped up the server size a bit. Thanks for knocking over the servers again you jerks!

Overall the new architecture is working well. Unfortunately the memory size was too low and thats why they fell over this time. Autoscaling is working well other than that.

Version 5.3.7

July 18, 2018

Quick fix today

  • Added handling for empty pokebox when loading battle party page

Thanks for the bug reports everyone

Version 5.3.6

July 17, 2018

Minor patches to address a bug and a usability issue

  • Added new short link for custom raid levels for Zapdos
  • Fixed battle party edit thanks Crystal

The Zapdos link was causing people to get confused with not seeing their Pokebox results.

Version 5.3.5

July 12, 2018

Zapdos is getting Thunder Shock and a sim update

  • Added Thunder Shock for Zapdos
  • Added handling of energy ping pong bug where getting hit by a special after you use your 1 bar special does not really give you energy. Energy gain/spend from specials moved to damage window start
  • Added handling of bug where queued attacks when you die on the server side must complete before a new attack will be chosen. Remaining time to next attack added to death delay. Note this is applied for both quick and special attacks
  • Reduced death time from 1.9s to 1.0s as the above bug explains most of the timing issues.

Overall this is a pretty big nerf to long duration moves and full bar moves, especially those with a late damage window. Frenzy Plant looks even better now on the other hand. Simulator updates due to research by /u/Lachanceuse100. I did not reduce the delay all the way down to 0.5s for now until I get more feedback and do some more research.

Version 5.3.4

July 9, 2018

Post Articuno day cleanup and pokebox usability

  • Removed Articuno from current list. Added to special events
  • Updated max level for pokebox to account for weather boost
  • Fixed broken weather drop down on rankings page. Thanks for the bug report 劉冠緯
  • Added ability to save recommended party as a battle party
  • Added quick power up to advice page

New usability features by popular demand! More usability improvements to come!

Version 5.3.3

July 5, 2018

Articuno was released as a Tier 4!

  • Updated links for Articuno Day

Version 5.3.2

July 5, 2018

Happy birthday to me! More bug fixes and changes.

  • New estimator sort for the raid pages
  • Fixed bug with assistants dying too late. Thanks /u/Lertburut for the bug report
  • Added Articuno to current raids
  • Fixed cp input issue

Please let me know if you find any issues! Site will be a little slow as the caches populate. Lots of servers running though to make it fast.

Version 5.3.1

July 3, 2018

Minor bug fixes and changes.

  • Fixed mobile left side to collapse after selecting a page
  • Added back bottom bar for desktop users
  • Made menus not move around so much on mobile
  • Made bigger buttons for account info
  • Moved language select on mobile to make room

Please let me know if you find any issues! Site will be a little slow as the caches populate. Lots of servers running though to make it fast.

Version 5.3.0

July 3, 2018

Massive redesign. Hopefully everyone likes it. Oh and Niantic pushed out Hydro Cannon so all new results too. Hydro Cannon is a great move but unfortunately Blastoise does not have good enough stats for it to be too useful.

  • Rearranged almost everything
  • Added tabs
  • Added buttons
  • Removed bottom and side nav bar for desktop
  • Added top nav bar for desktop
  • Hydro Cannon added.

Please let me know if you find any issues! Site will be a little slow as the caches populate. Lots of servers running though to make it fast.

Version 5.2.1

June 28, 2018

Minor bug fixes.

  • Fixed weather drop down on Pokedex
  • Fixed single view on rankings page

As always thanks for the bug reports!

Version 5.2.0

June 26, 2018

Massive support for friends.

  • Added friends drop downs to Gym Battle, Raid Battle and Raid Guide
  • Added big drop downs for Weather and Friends to battle results
  • Added missing Alola pokemon (other than Golem and Exeggutor)

Major performance optimizations, including methodology changes

  • Now limits the number of moves to 12 on raid counter results(sorry Mew).
  • Now uses the results from level 40v40, no dodging, no friends, with the selected weather for the results for all other pages

Previously the cap was 36 moves which is just silly and was causing some timeouts on the back end. Also was using dodging which didn't really affect results in most situations. This will greatly increase performance on the slowest ranking pages.

Version 5.1.6

June 22, 2018

Fixed Unown.

  • Users with Unown in their pokebox can now perform calculations

Tried to get Unown working for all the letters and ended up breaking it entirely

Version 5.1.5

June 20, 2018

Looks like only Regice is here.

  • Added Alola forms
  • Updated raids with new raids
  • Moved Registeel and Regirock to future raids

Kept Registeel and Regirock as available attackers because they barely show up anywhere

Version 5.1.4

June 20, 2018

The Regis are here.

  • Updated raids
  • Added Regice, Registeel and Regirock to available attackers

Version 5.1.3

June 18, 2018

Minor bug fix release

  • Fixed drop down for random assistants

Version 5.1.2

June 18, 2018

Minor bug fix release

  • Fixed drop down for attack strategy

Version 5.1.1

June 16, 2018

Bug fix release

  • Tons of tiny back end changes to prevent full errors. If you see Unown characters you probably did something wrong
  • Made the site work for IE 11. No I don't know why anyone would use such a browser. It's a good way to get a virus but as you wish
  • Bumped max pokemon for Fanatics to 2000 and Patreon level supporters to 600.
  • Increased number of pokemon considered for custom sims by 100%
  • Increased min server cluster size 40% and max server cluster size 100%.

Overall the site should have fewer errors and much better performance, even on release days. Thanks to all the Patreon supporters for making this all possible

Version 5.1.0

June 14, 2018

Smack Down for Tyranitar and simulation improvements for today

  • Smack down has arrived for Tyranitar!
  • Death time increased to 1.9 seconds
  • Lag for quick attacks increased to 28ms
  • Lag for special attacks decreased to 78ms

Version 5.0.2

May 31, 2018

So a midnight release has a bug. Shocking development! Rankings now often have 2 Exeggutor in them

Now to add some more data to the results page and make it pretty. Almost ready for official release!

  • Fixed time to win for Blissey as an attacker vs. Blissey
  • Fixed bug regarding dodging

This will hopefully be the last sim bug fix for awhile

Version 4.6.5

April 26, 2018

Yet another sim update. Battle party work is ongoing

  • Added ability for logged in users to select number of assistants for each raid
  • Default number of assistants reduced from 6 to 4

Version 4.6.4

Version 4.6.2

  • Added assistants information to help explain why random attackers are showing up in the combat log now

Version 4.6.0

April 15, 2018

Extensive back end changes for today's update. This is further prep work for full battle party support

  • Tier 4 and 5 raid bosses now receive 5 assistant level 30-40 battle parties.
  • Drill down raid simulations now show combat log and combat summaries taking into account
  • Extended max 5 man raid from 290s to 298 with a 2.5s delayed start
  • Bosses now have exact health in sims
  • Many formulas have been reworked/tweaked including win%, overall %, power, TDO
  • Win % now shows your chance of winning with 5 assistant battle parties
  • Combat log now shows assistants with multi colors
  • Faster loading landing page
  • Faster loading pokebox

Assistant battle parties are currently a random selection of up to two battle parties containing Dragonite, Rayquaza, Raikou, Kyogre, Tyranitar, Groudon, Machamp and Golem. Raid simulation will still end when your attacker battle party dies.

Some slowness may occur due to the new higher quality sims. I will keep an eye on it.

Version 4.5.7

April 10, 2018

New Kanto region raid bosses are here

  • Support for all new raid bosses
  • Fixed css issue with new patreon messages

Version 4.5.6

April 7, 2018

Some major changes for the site today. Pokebattler is now 100% supported by Patreon. That means users like you are my only source of funding. I expect this to take some time to build up to the same level as before, so I will set monthly goals to keep Pokebattler ad free

  • Removed ads for a one month trial
  • Removed $1 Patreon tier
  • Replaced $1 Patreon tier with free Patreon tier that gives a pokebox size of 75 just for logging in
  • Reduced $4 tier to $3
  • Added nag messages. Yes they go away if you log in with Patreon.
  • Fixed bug with bulk import requiring cp if you put in iv and level

This site has grown so much since my first alpha 2 release back in September 2016. If I had known just how long those features I wanted to build would take who knows if I would have gotten this far.

I truly detest ads and apparently most of you do too with a huge number of ad blockers and even google analytics blockers out there. That's fine. I use ad blockers too. And for most sites it wouldn't matter. But this site is extremely expensive per user with custom results and expensive servers. So go to my Patreon, read why we think you should donate and give me a few raid passes... or not.

Version 4.5.5

April 2, 2018

Latias was given Outrage and new raids are out so yet another release

  • Added Outrage to Latias
  • Regenerating results for the 5th time in 3 days

Results will roll out over the next few hours

Version 4.5.4

April 2, 2018

Latios and Latias are coming out today!

  • Regenerating results for the 4th time in 3 days
  • Results will roll out to users over the next few hours

Version 4.5.3

April 1, 2018

Getting reports of some people being stuck with bad settings so decided to do a much better job of error handling

  • Added error handling to every remote call
  • On error, will reset most of your settings to make sure you are not stuck

There are probably better ways to handle stuck settings but errors are rare enough I think this is ok.

Version 4.5.2

April 1, 2018

Just realized I forget something very important. Sorry about that

  • Added Mew as possible Attacker
  • Added more translations

Version 4.5.1

March 31, 2018

Whats a big release without a bug or 2?

  • Fixed localhost link
  • Fixed raids showing unknown quick move, that should only show up for Mew

Regenerating again, things are rolling out over the next hour

Version 4.5.0

March 31, 2018

Some major changes today to support Mew!

  • Mew has been added. While he is not expected to be a raid boss, if you do simulate him as a raid boss, he will have a random quick move
  • Mew, Celebi, Jirachi and Doxys removed from tier 5 raids
  • Now only returns results for best 3 quick attack moves per special. This affects hidden power as well although it will return the best 3 plus a random hidden power
  • Maximum number of movesets reduced from infinite to 36
  • Number of best counter movesets shown on pokedex reduced from infinite to 3 to match the 3 shown on defender
  • TDO sort added. TDO shown is the average damage done by each pokemon before dying. Power on the other hand is percent of damage done by all the pokemon involved within the battle time.

Mew has 350 different possible movesets and the results for mew are 45MB in size. Its simply not possible to return all results. It is too slow to generate and far too large a result. This seems to be the best approach that returns a large variation of special attacks.

Version 4.4.6

March 26, 2018

Bug fixes and more translations with this release!

  • Fixed Frenzy Plant bulk upload
  • Added lots of translations
  • Fixed a nasty bug with upload of sub level 30 pokemon by cp

Thanks to all the community contributors who have helped translate on translate.pokebattler.com. It really makes a difference for non-native speakers.

Version 4.4.5

March 25, 2018

Frenzy Plant for Venusaur is released with a 2.6s duration!

  • Frenzy Plant added.

Enjoy community day everyone!

Version 4.4.4

March 18, 2018

My flight to Europe was delayed a day, so a couple minor bug fixes

  • Better handling of unknown pokemon and battle parties. If you see an Unown, you did something wrong
  • Added better instructions to the pvp and raid simulation pages

Version 4.4.3

March 17, 2018

Minor bug fix

  • Battle Parties that have had a pokemon deleted will now not be totally broken

Version 4.4.2

March 16, 2018

Lugia was officially released and there was a raid rotation

  • Raid rotation applied. Manectic, Jolteon and others added
  • New power for sky attack added, about a 10% dps boost vs Machamp
  • Initial frame by frame analysis for Frenzy Plant added for Venusaur. Looks like 5% less dps than Exeggutor vs Groudon
  • Number of sims for Hidden Power of particular types reduced one monte carlo level due to overloading the servers. Stupid Starmie. Hidden Power Random is still full sims.

Have fun with the new raids everyone. I expect there to be no updates for the next couple weeks

Version 4.4.1

March 16, 2018

A quick fix for the pvp issue

  • Pvp now works. Oops

Version 4.4.0

March 15, 2018

A big release today, with the official beta release of battle parties! You can now store your battle parties on pokebattler and use them to fight a raid boss or to fight your friends in pvp combat!

  • Tweaked an edge case with Power that caused issues with Claydol. Super tanky pokemon will now have power capped by the amount of damage they did within the time constraints of a raid. I have NOT regenerated all results as this mostly affects custom sims which wil automatically update
  • Added battle parties! You can currently create and edit. Delete will come eventually
  • Pvp is here
  • Better Raid simulator is here
  • Lugia is back
  • Servers are doubled again because you people are insane

Warning: I am leaving on vacation from 3/17 to 3/24. If there are changes such as new raid bosses during that time, I will try and make them from my laptop when I'm at the hotel but I can't promise.

Patreon users have higher battle party support but even free users have the same number of battle parties as they have in game. A much better UI for selecting battle parties will come after I get back from vacation. There will also be a more advanced version of the raid simulator too!

Version 4.3.7

March 5, 2018

Niantic decided to push out some new raid bosses while I had a bug performing too many calculations for raids and one of the new raids has hidden power, a very expensive raid calculation. Not a good combo, and the site was very slow and had a few errors for 30 minutes, sorry everyone.

  • Added new raid bosses!
  • Fixed issue where raid bosses had legacy moves
  • Minor text fixes

Regenerating all results in the background. Increased the server size 50% for now.

Version 4.3.6

March 5, 2018

New sim features and support for legacy moves. Thanks to all the Patreon supporters for helping provide these higher quality sims

  • Simulation quality for Monte Carlo - Silver has been increased from 25 to 50 and for Unknown movesets form 25 to 200.
  • Simulation quality for Monte Carlo - Bronze has been increased from 10 to 25 for Unknown movesets.
  • Added legacy move information to many areas
  • Removed impossible Dragonite moves
  • Changed attack strategy to automatically not use charge moves if it is worse than the quick move dps
  • Removed impossible Dragonite moves
  • Fixed bug on battle page if not logged in
  • Removed Groudon and Kyogre from current raids

The simulation quality changes for non-Patreon users and the lowest level Patreon supporters should reduce some of the funny bumps in the Advice section. Apparently people expected accuracy at the +-2% level.

Version 4.3.5

February 28, 2018

More bugs!

  • Battle page could get bugged out and unfixable with some settings
  • Battle party page could too but I dont think this affected anyone
  • Removed battle party link for non-pokebox results
  • Added caught cp range to raids page

Sorry about the bugs everyone. Currently working on some third party integrations I think people will appreciate.

Version 4.3.4

February 26, 2018

One more bug

  • Fixed order on advice list page

Version 4.3.3

February 26, 2018

A couple bug fixes, I hope these are the last.

  • Fixed fight page after going to battle page
  • Minor text fixes

Version 4.3.2

February 25, 2018

Even more bug fixes

  • Fixed erroneous top message
  • Fix for moves being incorrect for battle party
  • Fix for run random again for battle party

Version 4.3.2

February 25, 2018

Some more bug fixes

  • Fixed drill down results from raids
  • Adjusted estimator for more accuracy
  • Fix advice page ordering

The code for estimator was rewritten. It should be better now.

Version 4.3.1

February 23, 2018

Rushed out the release this morning so of course there were bugs

  • Fixed battle party to use top 6 counters not bottom 6
  • Fixed battle party to use counters in rank order not random.
  • Fixed link to battle party result

Enjoy the community today tomorrow! Hopefully there will be surprise dragonite raids!

Version 4.3.0

February 23, 2018

Our first battle party release is finally here! See how your top 6 performers fare in sims

  • Beta release for recommended battle parties
  • Added Kyogre and Groudon back into raids as they are back in the mix for a week.

More to come on the battle party front and probably some more features for raid simulations

Version 4.2.5

February 16, 2018

Another release, this one with more behind the scenes work to support battle parties and more bug fixes

  • Added support for Draco Meteor Dragonite. Short answer is Outrage is almost always better but doesnt look as cool ;)
  • Reworked all raid and advice urls to better support custom raids. No more hacky cp!
  • Changed login so it will keep you logged in if you log in at least every 2 weeks
  • Fixed some issues with bad urls

Version 4.2.4

February 13, 2018

Patreon users at the $4 Supporter level now do not see ads! The next Patreon support goal removes ads for all Patreon users.

Version 4.2.4

February 12, 2018

A couple more bug fixes

  • Add pokemon properly shows stats on the left side again
  • You can cancel out of deleting pokemon (oops)

Version 4.2.3

February 12, 2018

Minor bug fix

  • Legacy and Future Tier 5 dropdowns now work properly

Version 4.2.2

February 12, 2018

Worked hard over the weekend to support forms properly. They took a surprising amount of work to get right

  • Deoxys and Castform are now fully supported. Deoxys also had his stats updated to their probable values.
  • Rearranged the raid page to make it more clear which legendaries are which and to order them properly

Deoxys stats are pretty terrible for Pokemon Go. I expect a revisit of the formula. They just don't make sense. If your defense is so low you cant usually get your special off whats the point?

Version 4.2.1

February 9, 2018

New pokemon are out and a bunch of new raids!

  • Added all the current raids to the raids page and moved legacy raids out
  • Added new pokemon and Rayquaza

The world first Rayquaza duo challenge was beaten in just 26 minutes. Working on a video now then off to catch some new Pokemon. Plenty of time to figure out irrelevant Castform tomorrow.

Version 4.2.1

February 8, 2018

Niantic announced ahead of time, new Pokemon! Salamence, Altaria, Metagross and Rayquaza have all been oofficially confirmed

  • Renumbered previous version since it broke backwards compatibility
  • Added new pokemon and Rayquaza

Rayquaza and I assume the final main batch of gen 3 is being released tomorrow. If additional special pokemon are released such as Castform that requires changes I will work on it this weekend.

Version 4.2.0

February 4, 2018

Bugfixes and behind the scenes work for today's release

  • Fixed issue with editing Pokemon in your Pokebox
  • Removed legendaries from pokebox defender rankings
  • Fixed some bad url issues
  • Tweak the server lag calculations. Overall shift is around 1% and depends on the fight
  • Added energy to the combat log for those who are interested in such things

For those curious, server lag has been in Pokebattler since December. It is required to match the frame by frame video analysis. It averages out to 25ms for fast attacks and 100ms for special attacks. These numbers need significantly more data points to be completely accurate and definitely make a difference on close fights like Aggron. It is possible and in fact likely that the special attack lag is determined by your internet speed. Wifi attempts would definitely have lower lag

Version 4.1.10

January 29, 2018

New functionality today with the help of Wasabigeek

  • Bulk Delete created to replace Delete All. It should be much faster to cleanup your pokebox now
  • Some performance improvements for large Pokebox
  • Support for Portuguese language thanks to JCB
  • Various bug fixes

Version 4.1.9

January 24, 2018

A small ui patch

  • Fix hidden power pokemon in raids like Porygon

Version 4.1.8

January 23, 2018

A small release tonight to add some pokemons and a new raid

  • Aggron has been added to the raid pages
  • Updated some caching code so people should see new releases faster
  • Added Lunaton and Solrock to raid results. Mini Golems
  • Pikachu can throw presents while he surfs

As many people know, new raids can always be found in the custom raid section by selecting Tier ? and picking the appropriate tier and Pokemon. You dont have to wait for a new release!

Version 4.1.7

January 23, 2018

The big news today is the next batch of gen 3 has been released! I have made some guesses as to what is being released and pushed out a new version. I also added some more analytic options for logged in users.

  • Next gen 3 batch released. New results may take some time to generate. Servers have been doubled just in case
  • Ability to select results by percentile on raid and advice pages for logged in users
  • Legacy simulation types removed. Monte Carlo is much better
  • Fixed drop downs on pokedex page

The higher the number of sims, the more options you get. No point seeing a 99th percentile if you only have 10 results. Seeing the range of results is interesting to me, hopefully it is interesting to you as well. More to come if people like it

Version 4.1.6

January 19, 2018

More changes today to support higher Patreon benefits and to announce a new contest.

  • Fanatic members now have far more simulation options including Monte Carlo - Platinum with 500 sims each
  • Kyogre has left the building
  • We are announcing Rayquaza Duo Contest

Monte Carlo Platinum will be very useful for allowing accurate percentile results. This way you can choose to 'get lucky' or 'get unlucky' and see how the results change. I expect Leaf Blade to be better in the unlucky case while Solar Beam to be better in the lucky case for example

Version 4.1.5

January 16, 2018

A big milestone was reached. Patreon subscriptionshit $1,500! This release is mostly to support the new rewards.

  • $10 Patreon level Patreons (redundant I know) are now ad free!
  • A new delete all button has been added with the help of Wasabigeek!
  • Raid advice video tutorial added thanks to my lovely wife
  • Tons of translations from many different people, thanks everyone!

Ad free experience will expand to $4 Fan level when donations reach $2,000 and $1 level when donations reach $3,000. Thanks for all your support

Version 4.1.4

January 12, 2018

Another big update today. The big news of course is the Kyogre is out, but Pokebattler has some new features too

  • Kyogre has been added to available attackers
  • Major update and official release of the advice tool including a graph!
  • Many behind the scenes updates
  • Better support for saving Pokebattler to your phone
  • New notification of new releases for supporting browsers

Good luck on those Kyogre raids everyone!

Version 4.1.3

January 8, 2018

A couple more bug fixes for bugs I created with the last bug fixes

  • Removed Splash from legacy moves of some legendaries
  • Fixed issue with linking the estimator to the dropdown

Version 4.1.2

January 7, 2018

Some more bug fixes and tweaks to make the advice section easier to use

  • Added back legacy fast moves to results
  • Fixed dodge strategy not working on advice page
  • Made advice urls sharable
  • Tweaked estimator to be more pessimistic on solo attempts. Must now have both time and power
  • Removed Dragon Tail from Kygore on Battle page
  • Linked estimator to drop down for moves so you can see how hard each moveset is

Some more UI changes coming soon to the advice page and then a 6 pokemon raid simulator.

Version 4.1.1

January 4, 2018

Not surprising with a change this big, there were a few bugs. And of course Niantic decided to update Kyogre moves. Seems they are preparing for the next raid!

  • Regenerating all results to fix an issue with tier 4 raids and with Kyogre move changes
  • Added Kyogre more prominantly
All in all pretty minor bugs considering. Hope you all are enjoying the new features!

Version 4.1.0

January 4, 2018

Happy new year everyone! This release is chock full of changes. Major simulation improvements, a translation site and a brand new advice feature top the list

  • Added https://translate.pokebattler.com information. Help translate and get free Patreon benefitsM
  • Added a new raid advice tool including our own take on breakpoint analysis
  • Added a Pokebattler Estimate for raids that gives a pretty good estimate of how many trainers you should need to defeat a raid boss
  • Tweaked optimizer for defense rankings again so Slaking shows up on dodge strategies
  • Use a more random patterned optimizer for dodge strategies for all pages
  • Fixed ranking page loading for dodge strategy changes
  • Changed effective deaths to average instead of median
  • Major changes in Monte Carlo optimizer algorithm
  • Both Rankings and Pokedex attackers now use the 3 best movesets from the 24 best defenders for rankings
  • All Rankings, Pokedex and Raid counters are based around level 40 counters but with lower level 30 stats. This may affect the lower half of the 24 shown slightly but the speed is worth it.
  • Drill downs from rankings to pokedex have been added
  • Added accurate counts of how many sims are used per page
  • Fixed Emojis 😄!
  • Fixed raid not loading correctly with quick inputs
  • Did some speedups for mobile phone quick inputs Tier ?
  • Tweaked the backend to be even more efficient
  • Added additional monitoring capabilities

This release has been a huge amount of work. I'd like to thank all the Patreon supporters who beta tested these changes for me and helped iron out the bugs. That said there are almost certainly more bugs! Let me know if you find something amiss. There will be more work

Version 4.0.9 released

December 21, 2017

Update for new water pokemon! Remember Pokebattler only keeps available pokemon in its rankings and raids pages so be sure to check back when new Pokemon are released!

  • 21 new water pokemon, with a few notables like Wailord and Milotic
  • Added Wailmer and Magikarp to tier 1 raids
  • A few gems in there but gotta catch em all! I hope you all have a merry Xmas and enjoy the upcoming Christmas event!

    Version 4.0.8-3 released

    December 17, 2017

Final bug fix release before my ski trip

  • Adding multiple pokemon in a row should work properly now
  • Added reset button on add page in case it doesnt
  • If there is a change between now and Thursday, I will not be able to make a release. Hopefully Niantic is on vacation too!

    Version 4.0.8-2 released

    December 16, 2017

    Small tweak to bulk upload

  • Bulk upload now shows which columns are not loading correctly
  • Added additional column name
  • Version 4.0.8-1 released

    December 16, 2017

As suspected, a few bugs happened. Thanks for all the bug reports! And sorry for blowing you off as a browser cache bug off the first time to go do a Groudon!

  • Fixed issue with pokebox results being cached server side for 6 hours found and fixed (in less than 6 hours lol)
  • Fixed issue with 0 iv pokemon showing ??. God javascript is a junk language
  • Thanks for all the bug reports, keep them coming!

    Version 4.0.8 released

    December 16, 2017

Performance tweaks, bug fixes and tweak to Overall rating. Yesterday was a very big day for Pokebattler and you all managed to overload the server for 5 minutes on 2 separate occassions. Well done!

    • Overall rating has been skewed farther in favor of time to win. Tier 4 and 5 are now 2/3s time to win and 1/3 power. Everthing else is 3/4 time to win and 1/4 power
    • Fixed infinite loop in query parameters on raid page
    • Reduced levels available on raid page to help with server performance
    • Hopefully improved algorithm for reducing computations required for monte carlo simulations
    • Reset all the caches yet again, lets see if the servers surivive

There was a nasty bug causing some counters to not show up for some raids. Even a #3 counter in 1 particular situation. This was caused by using the 'Expected Defender' ranking to narrow down which Pokemon to run the full Monte Carlo simulation on. I have switched this to using the level 40 monte carlo gold results which are cached. This should both be more accurate AND faster except for the first hour the server is up. We will see if this is a good thing or not :)

    Version 4.0.7.1 released

    December 15, 2017

Oops forgot to add Groudon to the top of the raids page

    • Groudon blurb added

    Version 4.0.7 released

    December 15, 2017

Groudon is out and has been added to the available pokemon pages

    • Groudon added to all rankings pages, ranking results have been reset again

    Version 4.0.6 released

    December 13, 2017

Translations update today. If you know a language other than English or German and would like to help translate Pokebattler, let me know. Contributors get Patreon benefits!

    • German translations for weather thanks to Jume37
    • Modified some translation options so hopefully people won't see untranslated text anymore

    Version 4.0.5 released

    December 10, 2017

A small patch to fix up some bugs and clean up the UI a bit

    • Added back a couple pokemon I had accidentally excluded
    • All ranking results have been thrown away yet again so expect some slowness for a bit while caches warm up
    • The auto complete fields on battle page now work again
    • New drop down menu for weather added in most places
    • Tweaked the add pokemon page so it should be a bit more usable

    Version 4.0.4 released

    December 10, 2017

And of course, a GameMaster change just as I am releasing

    • Gamemaster update with new Blaziken move
    • All ranking results have been thrown away again so expect some slowness for a bit while caches warm up
    • You can now select Abra on Battle page

    Version 4.0.3 released

    December 10, 2017

A big release today as weather support is live!

    • Full weather support on Battle, Raid, Rankings and Pokedex!
    • Removed unavailable pokemon from raid and rankings results
    • Removed Splash/Struggle from gen 3 pokemon
    • Fixed level drop down on raids input
    • Fixed issue with power in Most Difficult Raids section
    • Adjusted realistic dodging strategies for new UI. No more super effective issue!
    • Temporary fix for users not being able to log in. Will need a more permanent solution
    • All ranking results have been thrown away again so expect some slowness for a bit while caches warm up

There is quite a bit of disagreement over wether to show unavailable pokemon or not. I have removed them for now from most pages You can still see them on the Pokedex pages and the Battle pages though. A better solution will be found

    • Monte Carlo rankings and raid results are now generated and stored on the fly

    • Updated pokebox so that images are fixed size. This vastly improves scroll performance and overall performance especially on mobile
    • Updated edit pokemon page so that it does not automatically try and load the pokebox page after saving. This was causing a lot of double saves.
    • Added social media links including our new Youtube channel!

Be nice to your relatives everyone and make sure to catch tons of pokemon for your stardust

    Version 3.3.5 released

    November 11, 2017

    • Improved random handling of hidden power (hate that move so much)
    • Fixed an issue with Dodge Weave failing on the server
    • Kicked off raid simulations again for the new improved overall numbers

Good luck on the contest everyone. Legacy Omastars are almost cheating but all's fair in love and Pokemon.

    Version 3.3.3 released

    November 4, 2017

Niantic is keeping me busy with a completely unexpected Saturday evening update! New raids are out and Pokebattler is on the scene with updated rankings. All the tier 3 raids look soloable but Ninetales is going to be very rough, similar to Flareon difficulty level.

    • Added new raids
    • Improved raid tier detection logic slightly (it still needs work)
    • Moved legacy raids to their own section

Monte Carlo raid results have been kicked off. They will take some time to generate. If you don't see the Monte Carlo box, take the results with a grain of salt.

    Version 3.3.2 released

    November 3, 2017

Another bug fix release for this morning

    • Fixed Pokedex counters scaling
    • Fixed Pokedex counters ordering especially for single view

Thanks for all the bug reports!

    Version 3.3.1 released

    November 1, 2017

A quick bug release for this morning

    • Fixed Pokedex Defender display numbers to be on the correct scale
    • Fixed an issue on the rankings page where you could get stuck looking at a users pokemon that you didnt intend

The Pokedex defender section is still slightly out of sync with the defender rankings due to slighly different methodologies. They may get synced again in the future if I can figure out how to do it.

    Version 3.3.0 released

    October 31, 2017

Happy Halloween! A few big and a few small updates for this spooky day!

    • Updated simulations based on the latest Gamepress research.
    • Added Win% back to the sort options
    • Added Win% to the drill down table for raids
    • Added Win% to the battle simulation results page
    • Added titles to many pages
    • Updated current Tier 5 raids per region
    • Fixed bug on drill down on rankings page
    • Regenerated all ranking and raid simulations

The simulation now contains a queuing mechanism just like the servers added almost a year ago. On the defender side, the queuing is immediately after the previous move, using the energy from that move and nothing that happens after. On the attacker side, I have set the queue at 100ms. This is the low end of what I am using for special charging. Basically this means any energy gained in the last 100ms before you can start charging for a special will not be used to determine if you could use a special. These changes should improve simulation quality even further

Pokebattler takes great pride in being the highest quality simulator around with the best user interface. There are new features coming soon that I'm sure everyone will enjoy at least one of. For the more casual players, a power up evaluator to help you determine how much better your pokemon will be if you power it up. For the more serious raiders, a full raid simulator where you can select your exact 6 pokemon and eventually a whole attacker team. The UIs for these tools are rather difficult to get right but I will make sure they are as easy to use and understand as possible before I release them to the world.

    Thanks for all your support!

    Version 3.2.3 released

    October 18, 2017

Big news today! 5 ghost pokemon have movesets and will be available starting as noon tomorrow Pacific Daylight Time (aka Los Angeles Time)

    • Verified the only barely relevant new Pokemon is Banette
    • Backfill of raids to include Banette and Ho-Oh has begun.
    • Fixed Battle page pokebox toggle

While the new pokemon are not all that useful, I will certainly have fun collecting them starting tomorrow!

    Version 3.2.2 released

    Version 3.2.1 released

    October 18, 2017

    Version 3.1.1 released

    October 15, 2017

Minor release today, nothing for most users

    • Added beta site link for patreon users

    Version 3.1.0 released

    October 7, 2017

A major simulation update today, increasing both usability and accuracy. The most obvious change will be the addition of unknown movesets to raids and pokedex on the defender side. Obviously unknown on the attacker side doesnt make much sense ;). On the accuracy side two things were added. One is that pokebox users will all get Bronze Monte Carlo results now thanks to Patreon supporters! These results use the average of 10 random simulations instead of just 1 simulation. This is considerably more accurate but does use extra server horsepower. Thanks again to Patreon supporters for helping me out with this. The second less obvious thing is a tweak to the cast time for charge moves. This tweak is a bit too much to describe in patch notes, I will make an article for it instead. Net effect is that time to win is increased across the board, with quicker moves like Bite and Water Gun taking a bigger hit.

    • Add Unknown movesets to raids and pokedex
    • Change Pokebox calculations to Bronze Monte Carlo
    • Improve charge time accuracy
    • Minor text fixes

    Version 3.0.10 released

    • Increased speed of 'Single' mode
    • Added new system for alerts

Patreon support is officially launched! This allows you to get the features I can not support with just ads. Up to 1000 Pokemon in your storage. Higher simulation quality to get rid of some weird simulation results. These features require significantly more server resources than the pregenerated results I serve across the site.

    • Support for storing more than 50 Pokemon in your Pokebox
    • Support for higher quality simulations for your custom Pokebox simulations
    • Ad Free option
    • Various bug fixes

    Version 3.0.5 released

    September 8, 2017

Full Legendary Beast support! Legendary beasts have been added to attackers across the board. Good luck!

    • Suicune now has Hidden Power instead of Snarl!
    • Proper Hidden Power support throught the site

    Version 3.0.0 released

    August 27, 2017

The release you have all been waiting for is here. Pokebattler is proud to announce the Pokebattler Pokebox! This feature allows you to store your own Pokemon on our servers and use them across the site for custom results. Now you can find out exactly which of your Pokemon you should use for each raid!

    Current Features Include:

    • User login via Facebook and Google
    • Storage of up to 50 Pokemon
    • Select your Pokemon in the battle simulator
    • Simulate your Pokemon against every raid boss in the game
    • Share your results with your friends, they do not need to log in to see your results!

    Future free features:

    • Simulate your Pokemon on the Pokedex page
    • Rank your Pokemon on attack and defense on the rankings page
    • Full raid simulation with multiple different attackers
    • Friends support including fighting your friends!

As many of you know, these features are quite intensive on my servers. I will be closely monitoring the impact of these new features on site performance and will scale up my servers to handle the expected load. That said, there were some features I had to cut back dramatically due to load concerns. After some thought, I believe there are some of you out there who are willing to contribute financially for the additional server and development costs and support Pokebattler and its expanding features. To that end, I am investigating the use of Patreon to allow people who wish to have full simulation quality on their custom rankings (for raids, gym simulations, etc.) for more than 50 Pokemon. The more people who contribute, the bigger and faster the servers I can get are, and the better the site will be for everyone.

    Future premium features:

    • Increased Pokebox storage up to 1000 pokemon
    • Monte Carlo Simulation
    • Disable advertisements
    • Badges

    • Fixed a bug with selecting unknown tier raids

    • High definition icon added to monte carlo raid, pokedex and ranking results to show when Monte Carlo sims are being used
    • Fixed an issue preventing the ranking pages to load if no sort was provided
    • Fixed some caching to improve site performance and prevent non-monte carlo results from being cached forever
    • Behind the scenes changes

Work is progressing on adding the capability to store your own pokemon. There were quite a few backend changes that had to be done first. Hopefully progress will speed up.

    Version 2.4.6 released

    July 23, 2017

A couple of bug fixes this morning that were found overnight.

    • Tier 5 fights now correctly go to 300 seconds instead of 180
    • Some very slow attackers (like Shuckle) no longer have negative time to win
    • Fixed attacker rankings
    • Monte Carlos will be filling in as the day goes on. New system is much better that way

Heading out to Santa Monica to get a ton of extra star dust. 6x star dust per km from incubators people! Thats a lot of stardust! I don't really need a couple legendaries that arent very good against anything but I will get them regardless!

    Version 2.4.5 released

    July 22, 2017

Research complete! Video analysis confirms tier 5 raid bosses have a cpm of 0.79. Formula analysis suggests hp should be 12500 (vs. the 15000 predicted). This means raids are slightly easier than thought.

    • Updated stats for all tier 5 raid bosses
    • Added group energy gain for tier 4 and 5 raid bosses. Bosses now gain energy at a rate as if there were 5 other attackers with you. Energy gain is maxhealth / max combat time * (5/6) / 2. Thanks 劉冠緯 for the research
    • Disabled Monte Carlo simulations again. New ones will show up over time. You can tell by looking at the number of simulations that were run. Will add a more obvious indicator soon.
    • Changed Overall rating for tier 5 raids to 50% power and 50% time to win to account for there being 300s and picking new pokemon is very slow

Had a fun day today collecting tons of pokemon at Santa Monica Pier and trying and failing to catch a legendary. Please spread the news about Pokebattler, I was teamed up with a bunch of players sitting in their dars using Blisseys and Snorlaxes and Lapras and other terrible counters for Articuno! They do about the same amount of damage as Golem but are 50% or more slower. Speaking of Golem, he has dropped dramatically in the charts. The new group energy gain and 300 second limit has dramatically reduced his usefulness as a glass cannon. I used 3 of him and while his dps is indeed high, he gets crushed very quickly if you don't dodge.

    Version 2.4.4 released

    July 22, 2017

The first legendaries are out and we are looking into the stats as we speak. AKA Im hopping in my car and driving down to santa monica and will try and record a raid! Neverfear, Pokebattler will be the first to update with the latest counters. We will also be rerunning all the rankings and pokedex with some new pokemon!

    • Minor text fixes

    Version 2.4.3 released

    July 21, 2017

GoFest is tomorrow and there are already signs that there will be some shakeups. A 'bug' was introduced that is causing Bosses to heal when the attacker dies. This is making all raids significantly more difficult. We will see if this was intentional or not but if its not fixed by tomorrow morning, I will be pushing out a change to show the effects! For now assume you want tankier pokemon with higher power and less glass cannons.

    • Monte Carlo sims have been turned off for rarely called raids. Most of these sims were being done for google web crawlers and they arent cheap! If you have a specific combination you care about send me a message
    • Fix for raid detailed view in group mode has been implemented. There are probabaly more bugs in there, its not completely tested
    • More internationalization on the Rankings page. The site should be almost completely translated for German now! If you would like to help translate other languages let me know!

Looking forward to tomorrow. Hopefully I will get to actually play and not just keep the site updated all day but who knows! Make sure to share Pokebattler at GoFest!

    Version 2.4.2 released

    July 20, 2017

This release reenables monte carlo simulations on all pages. Hopefully it will also allow faster roll outs of Monte Carlo rankings in the future

    • Monte Carlo sims have been rerun for all ranking and pokedex pages as well as most raid pages
    • Improved fall back logic for when monte carlo sims are not already pregenerated has been implemented which will run a monte carlo ranking sim and store in for next time
    • Death icons have been fixed on raids and pokedex pages
    • Bigger servers all around, the article server is 6x as big, the main fight server is 2x as large.

Hopefully the new logic will hold up and I won't have to touch it again. I dislike having low accuracy rankings up for days on end. I think this should fix it for good.

    Version 2.4.1 released

    July 15, 2017

A bug fix and formula tweak release today to handle some issues with the new raid simulations

    • Power rating has been modified to make sure it works correctly in all cases. It was causing the results on the pokedex and raids page to behave strangely if not using dodging.
    • Overall rating for raids changed to 66.7% weight towards time to win and 33.3% towards power. This better reflects the realities of current raids.
    • Order by Time to win and potions now works correctly for raid and pokedex counters
    • Deaths more accurately tracked
    • Tier 5 bosses changed to 15,000 hp because I believe Niantic is not as diabolical as I am
    • Monte carlo results have been disabled outside of battle simulations

Due to the issues with this release and the tweaking of the formulas still going on, we are going to hold off on monte carlo sims for a bit. If you want to see a monte carlo result for any raid counter or pokedex counter, simply click on the result in the grid and it will load. Monte carlo sims will return as soon as things stabilize a bit.. While the majority of the issues were in the no dodging results for pokedex and rankings, I do not want to have incorrect results out there. In addition, I have a feeling there will be a raid rotation soon that will require new results to be run. I am also thinking of tweaking Realistic dodging for raids significiantly

    Version 2.4.0 released

    July 12, 2017

A huge release today. This was a huge release in the making. Make sure to check out the Tier 4 Raid Boss Guide that was made yesterday from this release's data. Now for an incomplete change log

    • Simulations have been changed so that up to 6 pokemon will fight a battle if they feignt. This better supports both raids and regular pokemon battles such as Blissey
    • Battle results now show up to 6 pokemon as well!
    • Pokedex and raids will now show all counters! 2 modes were added, a click to zoom mode and an option to show ungrouped results like the rankings page
    • Monte Carlo is currently being run for every combination of raid results. These will update over the next few days. These take a long time to generate as they require effectively 1200 sims per run.
    • Dodgeability has been added to the raid tool. Future changes will likely include dramatically reducing realistic dodging for raids due to the lack of a dodge flash.

Next up is a custom pokebox feature. Import from gamepress will be supported

    Version 2.3.4 released

    July 2, 2017

Another quick release, hopefully this will be the last one for a bit

    • Monte Carlo rankings and pokedex are back. Just 100 sims for now
    • Loading screen for mobile
    • Minor Text fixes

Now for a much needed break. I need to do some more raids and replenish my stardust!

    Version 2.3.3 released

    July 1, 2017

Another quick patch release, thanks for the bug reports!

    • Fixed issue with a couple of the resist types. Fixed by loading from gamemaster so this will never happen again.
    • Disabled Monte Carlo sims again until I can regenerate

Thanks for all the bug reports folks, fixing things as fast as I can. Trying to add unit tests as I go

    Version 2.3.2 released

    June 28, 2017

Quick patch release, thanks for the bug reports!

    • Fixed issue with rankings not showing up if no sort parameter is provided
    • Fixed completely unrelated issue with sorts not working on the Raids page

    Version 2.3.1 released

    June 27, 2017

Another major update, this time, introducing an all new raids page! This page should work much better on mobile devices than the old one. Let me know how it works out for everyone!

    • Major UI work for the new raids page
    • Added custom raids section to the raids page
    • Monte Carlo results for pokedex and raids have been created
    • Fixed a sorting bug in the counters section of the pokedex. Thanks for all the bug reports!
    • Minor text fixes

The raids page is now in a much better state usability wise. I will clean up the UI on some of the other pages as I get to them. Next on the docket, a raid tool

    Version 2.3.0 released

    June 27, 2017

An update across the board. This should improve all the rankings on the site, wether the raid tool, rankings or pokedex

    • Added mixed legacy and new movesets to rankings
    • Modified Overall ranking formula for raid bosses. It is now 50% power and 50% combat time. Due to attacker death, this typically reduces down to 50% damage dealt and 50% combat time. Combat time and power weightings tweaked to account for group combat.
    • Modified Overall ranking formula for normal fights due to meta changes. It is now 40% power, 40% combat time and 20% potions
    • Removed legacy movesets from raid bosses
    • Raid boss cpm and hp tweaked even more
    • Added an educated guess at Tier 5 raids for all legendaries.
    • Tweaked ranking formulas so pokedex and rankings page will match
    • Tweaked Power formulas so that overkill by boss is no longer counted against you
    • Removed monte carlo from rankings and pokedex until the site stabilizes
    • Major bug fix on some resist modifier calculations, expect some shifts. So embarassing
    • Tweaked homepage layout
    • Minor text fixes

Raid formulas are still not 100% accurate but they are much closer. We still do not have an exact formula for hp. In addition, preliminary results seem to show some boss scaling based on how many attackers there are. More information as it comes in can be found on the pokebattler subreddit

Coming soon, a new UI for raids and support for mixed legacy/current movesets in the ranking pages.

    Version 2.2.5 released

    June 27, 2017

Even more research being done at Pokebattler these last few days on Raid combat. I can not thank all the people who have provided me research data enough. Also shout out to the awesome reddit crew working hard on video analysis and formula crunching /u/ClamusChowderus, /u/dondon151, /u/RoloHooligan, /u/vlfph, and more.

    • Raid tool has been updated to be much more accurate.
    • Some of the deep links

Raid formulas are still not 100% accurate but they are much closer. We still do not have an exact formula for hp. In addition, preliminary results seem to show some boss scaling based on how many attackers there are. More information as it comes in can be found on the pokebattler subreddit

Coming soon, a new UI for raids and support for mixed legacy/current movesets in the ranking pages.

    Version 2.2.4 released

    June 18, 2017

Lots of research being done at Pokebattler these days on Raid combat.

    • Raid tool has been updated to be much more accurate.
    • Overall Rating has been tweaked to handle raids correctly. The 100 second cap on combat time has been removed.

Raid formulas will not be 100% accurate for quite some time I suspect. Raids are a very difficult thing to research. You have limited attempts and have to pay for each attempt. You do not know exactly how much damage is being dealt to the boss, and can only determine how much damage is incoming. You can figure out how many attacks of each type it takes to kill a boss. With these limitations, the formulas have been tweaked as best I can based on the information I have available to me.

    Remodel v5 released

    June 19, 2017

I ran a fast monte carlo simulation with 100 rounds to get some better data for all the ranking and pokedex pages These numbers are a bit better than before but not as good as the final versions.

    Remodel v4 released

    June 18, 2017

Apparently I spoke too soon. While I was sleeping, Niantic implemented higher values for super effectiveness and added immunity. We are now at 140% for super effective, 71.4% for not effective and 0.51% for immunity

    • Updated Super Effective from 125% to 140%
    • Updated Not Effective from 80% to 71.5%
    • Updated Immunity from 80% to 51%
    • Updated stab to 120% from 125%

    Remodel v3 released

    June 18, 2017

Evidence is pointing to no change to underlying mechanics so I have reverted the other changes. To make it better, I have added a basic implementation of raid bosses. There is no guarantee this is the method Niantic is going to use so I will leave it

    • Raid boss support added. Simply use a CP > 5000 to enable the mode on the Battle Simulator

    Remodel v2 released

    June 18, 2017

A quick change focused on improving the prestige mechanic. See Gym Remodeling Theorycraft #2 – Fix Prestiging for more details.

    • Prestige formula changed to encourage beating more difficult opponents and to fend off the bots

    Remodel v1 released

    June 17, 2017

An exciting time is upon us with the gym remodeling in effect soon. Instead of sitting around twiddling my thumbs during this period, I thought it would be a good idea to show how much better things could be.

This first update addresses the issues with resistances.

    • Type effectiveness changed to same effectiveness of main games. Instead of 125% and 80% modifiers for super effective and not effective, we are now using 200% and 50%. In addition immunities are in the game, helping ghost pokemon in particular
    • Removed super effective penalty in realistic dodging. This will dramatically increase survivability of glass cannons

    Version 2.2.3 released

    June 14, 2017

A minor release today, preparing for the upcoming gym rework

    • Added additional translations
    • Minor text fixes (css to be specific)

As before, I would love additional translations for the site. If you are interested in helping, please update the appropriate file and make a pull request or email the modified file to me. If you have any questions on how to do this just send me a message!

    Version 2.2.2 released

    May 29, 2017

A performance release to prepare for the expected big gym update for Pokemon Go

    • Rankings and Pokedex backend drastically sped up by reducing the number of calculations performed. Dugtrio is sad that he is so quickly eliminated from consideration
    • Attacker rankings have been improved. Before it was equally weighting each moveset of the defenders against every other defender. Now it averages for each defender first before finally averaging across all the defenders. Long story short, each attacker's results against Vaporeon with 3 movesets is now considered equally as the results against Dragonite with 11 movesets.
    • Monte Carlo simulations increased to 300
    • Scroll bug for prestige tool on mobile devices fixed
    • Advertisements added. These should generate enough money for some big new features I'd like to build

The basic trick being used to speed up the calculations is to use the much improved Expected calculation to estimate how well each matchup will go. Then assume the actual number will vary a bit and include around 10x more simulations than would be returned by the expected run. This means for rankings, on the pokedex and attacker sides I am able to reduce the number of simulations by a factor of 4 and on the defender side by a factor of 8! With the increase in number of sims to 300, this should make the rankings more accurate and faster to regenerate when the patch drops.

I tried my best to make the advertisements as unobtrusive as possible. They should not cause annoying shifts in content nor should there be any full page ads or super annoying ads. If I have screwed up in some way and you are unable to use the site or any information is obstructed by the ads please let me know.

    Version 2.2.1 released

    May 28, 2017

A minor bug fix release to address some issues that have popped up. Thanks for all the bug reports!

    • Fixed scroll issue where pages would sometimes not load at the proper position.
    • Addressed bug on Pokedex page where the settings section would not load sometimes

    Version 2.2.0 released

    May 25, 2017

This is a big release with changes across the board. We have translations for our foreign users from Jume37. If you would like to improve the translations please update the appropriate file and make a pull request or email the modified file to me

    • Major text fixes! German translation is fairly complete. Other langugages currently have pokemon and moves translated.
    • Updated Realistic Dodging algorithm, adding a small bonus to dodge for fast attacks
    • Added Realistic Dodging Pro algorithm
    • Added dodge percent chance to combat log
    • Updated Expected and Lucky Defender stategies to more accurately portray dodge strategues
    • Fixed issue with level drop downs

    Version 2.1.3 released

    May 21, 2017

This release includes an update for the Overall rating calculation, see the Realistic Blissey Counters Revisited article for more details and to see how it affected the Blissey rankings. In short, combat taking more than 50 seconds is more heavily penalized than before.

    • Updated Overall Rating formula
    • Increased number of simulations for Monte Carlo from 100 to 200 to increase accuracy
    • Fixed yet another bug in the Dodge Weave strategy, rankings should be correct now
    • Regenerated all rankings
    • Added seed parameter to simulator results to allow repeatable results
    • Added seed parameter to pokedex and prestige tool deep links

    Version 2.1.2 released

    May 16, 2017

A maintainance fix release targetting mainly at the Prestige tool. It was not updated for monte carlo simulations due to the impossibility of simulating every single combination.

    • Fixed an issue with Dodge Weave strategy on some pages
    • Restored the simulation strategies for prestige tool
    • Hopefully fixed issues where the prestige tool would not load
    • Better descriptions added to all sorts of things to clarify how analysis was performed
    • Improved caching to speed up your return visit to Pokebattler!
    • Fixed missing bottom navigation bar on landing page

Note: I'm not sure how to handle dodgability on prestige tool as it would require 18 million simulations per pokemon/level/iv/attack strategy/dodge strategy/sort combination which comes out to 200,000,000,000,000,000 simulations. Even just trying to only do perfect ivs is 5x more simulations than the entire rankings and pokedex combined.

    Version 2.1.1 released

    May 14, 2017

Officially migrating the articles to a fully featured wordpress site. You can now comment, search by categories and more! The articles section is full of great articles by the best researchers and authors on reddit. If you would like to contribute, send me a message!

    Version 2.1.0 released

    May 10, 2017

Another major change, this time on the rankings and pokedex pages. Rankings based on your prefered Dodge Strategy have been implemented using Monte Carlo simulations. The scope of this effort is vast, with 580,608 Monte Carlo simulations performed, with 30 million simulations per ranking page and 500,000 per pokedex page. All in all over 1 trillion simulations were performed to generate the new pages. The results are worth it. The new pages load faster and more accurately reflect real world results.

    • Changed all ranking and pokedex pages to pregenerated Monte Carlo Rankings
    • Added Dodge Strategies to rankings and pokemon pages
    • Changed drop down for level selection on rankings and pokemon pages. If you really want another option let me know
    • Embedded all Pokemon images into a single file to speed up mobile page loads
    • Improved Articles section
    • Changed some pages to not stretch all the way across the screen on large monitors
    • Removed pokedex landing page

    Version 2.0.0 released

    April 5, 2017

Major changes on the Pokemon Go battle simulator side for this go around. Other simulators were starting to catch up but this should put Pokebattler well in front again. Many thanks to ClamusChowderus for an excellent Dodge All Weave implementation. We also have improvements on the random simulation side with multiple dodge implementations and a full monte carlo simulator! I am not changing the defaults as of yet but for those who want to see the most accurate result, select attack strategy Dodge Specials Pro, dodge strategy Realistic Dodging and simulation type Monte Carlo.

    • Added Dodge All Weave implementation. This should give a 100% repeatable dodge all strategy in the real world. Let me know how it works out!
    • Added Dodge strategies. There are a few different options but they should give more realistic results. This is only available on battle simulator for now
    • Added Monte Carlo simulation option to battle page. This runs 100 random simulations and returns the average result along with the median combat log. This should allow for much higher quality results. This is also only on the battle simulator for now
    • Improved energy accuracy. Defender energy was capped at 200 energy based on reports that 2 hyper beams could occur in a row. According to Dondon, this does not actually occur. I have also never seen it occur.
    • Removed performance optimization on pokedex page that was only considering only the top 30 CP pokemon for the rankings. If this slows the server down too much, I will need to put it back
    • Removed Punching Bag option because it caused more confusion than the limited value was worth.
    • Removed Random option on prestige tool to reduce load on the server. Will try and find a way to bring it back.
    • Limited CPU utilization from rankings pages so individual battles will always be quick to run
    • Added new awesome logo to the home page thanks dear!

Hope you all enjoy this release. I hope to find a way to implement monte carlo simulations for all of the other pages, stay tuned!

    Version 1.9.2 released

    April 12, 2017

Small but important fix today. A nasty bug with the bottom bar on some devices has been fixed. The autocomplete drop down box should always work properly now. Also added Google analytics to figure out what pages people are using so I know where to focus my efforts.

    Version 1.9.1 released

    April 5, 2017

Stability and performance release today. On the plus side, the site should be faster, especially on mobile devices. On the down side, you will not be able to see as many results in the lists views as before. Biggest plus side, the server should be more stable now.

    • Reduced number of results to 24 for most pages, 20 for prestige
    • Reduced number of attackers being considered in defender rankings to 45. Should not change results significantly, but will greatly improve performance
    • Reduced server side cache slightly (hopefully can increase it back up

    Version 1.9.0 released

    April 4, 2017

Another huge release today, introducing a new section of the site, the Prestige Tool! Use it to find what the best pokemon are for prestiging any adversary. Version 1.4.3 released

    December 03, 2016

Prestige for defenders was changed by Niantec so a quick release

    Version 1.4.2 released

    December 03, 2016

    Minor update

    • Updated Ditto CP on results page to show transformed CP
    • Added prestige calculation to results page

    Version 1.4.0 released

    November 28, 2016

Ditto has been officially released and pokebattler.com has been updated to include it. Unfortunately, since he does not copy stamina over, he is not of much use in gyms but it's unique. Hopefully Niantic will add additional more gym combat features soon. I spent most of Thanksgiving weekend working on this and other additions to the site, hope you all enjoy it.

    • Ditto is now supported!
    • Major work to support Level/IV based simulations. They were of course already used on the backend
    • Added Related Battles to quickly tweak parameters of simulations
    • Fixed bug with Power display on Fight Results.
    • Fixed (hopefully) bug with pokemon selection not always working
    • Performance improvementsUpdated Ditto CP on results page to show transformed CP

    Version 1.3.1 released

    November 23, 2016

Unfortunately, the extra data I was sending down for experimental purposes ran my server out of memory as I was caching too much. I have removed the secret counters feature for now...

    Version 1.3.0 released

    November 22, 2016

https://www.pokebattler.com has been updated with the new CPs. There are quite a few new surprised to be had. Chansey and Rhydon have risen greatly on the defensive rankings. Rhydon, Golem and Chansey on attacker as well at least by Power. On pure combat time, Alakazam has risen greatly as has Kabutops! In general all the pokemon are much better balanced. This is a big win for Niantec. I will do more analysis later but in the interest of time here are the release notes for version 1.3.0!

    • CPs updated for new update
    • Power rating changed to %basis. 100% means that is is a 100% even fight. 200% means you will win 2 times over
    • Attacker rankings remain vs. All possible defenders (for now, sorry this release was rushed ;) )
    • Defender rankings are now against the best 5 possible attackers per defender (aka top 5 counters). Who the top 5 counters are can be seen in the json for the curious, will put it in a spreadsheet eventually.
    • Combat time sort is somewhat weighted by how much you win but should be close to what people generally care about for that sort of thing. No point dying quickly on attack ;)

As before, the site is extremely customizable and every simulation and ranking is done on the fly. There are different options for levels of pokemon, attack strategies and sort orders

    Todo:

    • UI to further refine rankings such as best vs. water types or best vs. a particular pokemon
    • Gym Prestiging
    • Gym Roster and personalized rankings/prestiging

Special thanks to /u/silentrob_ for the pull request while I was on an airplane! Made this release much faster.

    Alpha 2 released

    September 12, 2016

    https://www.pokebattler.com is now in alpha!

I've been working on this site for awhile and wanted to share it with you all now that its in an acceptable alpha state. Unfortunately my front end friends have been busy so you will have to deal with an unpolished version for now. The site is accurate as far as I know, but the current alpha has a few limitations. You can not enter your exact hp or hidden stats, you must know the moves of the defender, the defender ai is not random as it is in game (but its pretty close!) and no dodge attack strategy. The site is currently on google cloud engine behind cloudflare so hopefully it will stay up. The site uses protos behind the scenes, should be very easy to integrate with for 3rd party devs. Please do not abuse the api or release any apps using the api until I can get some revenue stream to cover the hosting cost!

    Features for current version:

    • Accurate combat simulation including attack damage, energy calculations, multiple attack strategies
    • Full log of all attacks
    • Max hidden stats calculation
    • True random combat simulation option

Planned features for the release version of the site include:

    • Create a roster for logged in users
    • Rank your attackers for a particular defender
    • Automatically calculates hidden stats as you power up
    • Official full REST api access for 3rd party developers
    • Less embarassing UI

    Planned Long term features include:

    • Multi-attacker combat
    • Multi defender combat
    • Fight your friends pokemon
