Ho-Oh Raid Guide
Ho-Oh– The Rainbow PokΓ©mon.

[Personalized Counters]

[Infographic Download]

Ho-Oh is a strong bulky Fire and Flying type attacker, with a handful of interesting niches as a Raid Attacker.  Generally outclassed by other Pokemon with better movesets. It’s shiny form is released.

Ho-Oh is weak to : Rock(x2), Water, Electric Damage.

Generally speaking, the best counters for it are:
Rampardos, Terrakion, and Tyranitar.

Ho-Oh can be beaten by 2 players in optimal weather, with max friendship and perfect level 40 counters or by 4 unfriended players using level 20 counters from this guide. When caught, Ho_Oh will be between 2119 and 2207 cp without a weather boost. In Clear weather, Ho_Oh will be between 2649 and 2759 when caught.

Ho-Oh In the Meta

Raid Meta – Extrasensory/ HP Fire + Fire Blast

Fire Blast is unfotunate since both Overheat and Flamethrower are more useful. The real killer is the lack of a STAB fast move (aside from Hidden Power Fire). If you do roll lucky and get Hidden Power Fire, Ho-Oh still isn’t topping any charts, and is in general slightly worse as a tanky Fire-Type attacker than Heatran.
[#table id=Rank_Fire/]

Raid Meta – Extrasensory + Brave Bird

This moveset is pretty good against Fighting-Type Pokemon, but strictly outclassed by Lugia after Sky Attack got buffed.
[#table id=Rank_Flying/]

Movesets

  • Fire Blast:

    • Second hardest moveset, boosted in common Sunny.
    • Water-Types are hit for πŸ›‘οΈ Resistance
    • Rock-Types are hit for πŸ›‘οΈ Resistance
  • Solar Beam:

    • Hardest Moveset due to covering two of it’s weaknesses, and boosted in the common Sunny. See misc analysis at end for more information.
    • Water-Types are hit for πŸ’₯ Weakness
    • Rock-Types are hit for πŸ’₯ Weakness
  • Brave Bird:

    • Easiest Moveset by a mile. You can mindlessly use Rock-Type attackers.
    • Rock-Types are hit for πŸ›‘οΈ Resistance
    • Electric-Types are hit for πŸ›‘οΈ Resistance

Note: Hidden Power is one of Ho-Ohs fast moves. While it is a random type for the player, in Raids it will always be Fighting-Type.
